Alexandre Vaz (Alex Vaz) has been a guitarist, music producer & songwriter for more than 20 years. Between 2004 and 2014 he was the guitarist for Brazil’s hip-hop star Marcelo D2. Vaz has played in some of the largest and most prestigious music festivals in the world like Rock in Rio, Montreux Jazz Festival, North Sea Jazz Festival, SWU, Lollapalooza, Roskilde, Nice Jazz Festival, F1 Rocks (Formula 1), Eurockeennes, Back to Black Festival, Live Earth, SummerStage in Central Park among other festivals and venues around the world such as The Rose Theater at Jazz at Lincoln Center in NY, Troubadour and Hollywood Bowl in LA, and The Fillmore in Miami.
Vaz has performed and recorded alongside notorious musicians and producers including Caetano Veloso, Jorge Ben Jor, Seu Jorge, Maria Caldato Jr, Thomas Bartlett, Liminha, Will.I.Am, Aloe Blacc, Marcos Valle, Anthony Roth Costanzo, Dado Villa-Lobos, Justin Vivian Bond, NY Philharmonic, Davi Corcos, Fernanda Abreu, Toni Garrido, Alcione, Paulinho da Viola, Marisa Monte, Arlindo Cruz, Bebel Gilberto, Robert Sá among many others.
He has composed songs with artists of different music genres such as Lulu Santos, Nando Reis, Kassin, Toni Garrido, Fernanda Abreu, Philippe Baden Powell. His song "Luz e Breu" was recorded by Milton Nascimento. In 2007 alongside Mauro Berman and Lourenço Monteiro, he started the band Cabeza de Panda, where he appears also as a singer for the first time. They have recorded two albums, and have produced and composed soundtracks for Brazilian TV shows “As Canalhas” and “Copa Hotel”.
In recent years, Vaz has also been working on audio posts for TV and films such as Harry & Meghan, Unknown: The Lost Pyramid, Eat The Rich-Game Stop Saga, I Am Vanessa Guillem (Netflix); Stolen Youth: Inside the Cult of Sarah Lawrence, Children of the Underground (Hulu); Hip Hop Homicides (WE tv); Last Call (HBO); Uyra: The Rising Forest, to name a few.
Since 2014, Vaz has been living and working in Brooklyn, NY.
